This year’s theme for the Capitol gingerbread model celebrates the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. The photo above shows a mural located in the Capitol building on the House side depicting the Golden Spike ceremony that celebrated the completion of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad in May of 1869.
